Our Story
Malaysia Airlines is the flag carrier of Malaysia and a member of the oneworld airline alliance. The company, Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) commenced operations as the national carrier on 1 September 2015 when Malaysian Airline System (MAS) was dissolved from Bursa Malaysia in 2014 and subsequently ceased operations on August 31, 2015.
The airline began as Malayan Airways Limited, and flew its first commercial flight in 1947. It was then renamed as Malaysian Airways after the formation of the Federation of Malaysia in 1963. In 1966, the airline was renamed Malaysia Singapore Airlines (MSA) and in 1972 Malaysian Airline System (MAS).

Malaysia Airlines operates flights from its home base, Kuala Lumpur International Airport, and offers connectivity across the globe, including Europe, the Middle East, Australasia, North and South Asia, and Southeast Asia.
The airline’s fleet consists of 15 Airbus A330-300’s, and 54 Boeing 737-800’s.The first of its six Airbus A350 XWB aircrafts on order will be delivered by the end of 2017. The Airbus A350 XWB will eventually replace the A380’s. The Extra-Wide-Bodied aircrafts will be operated on premium long-haul routes, with a luxurious three class layout: Economy, Business and First (the only First Class cabin on the A350 operated in Asia). There will also be inflight WiFi, the first for the airline.

The award-winning flight attendants who embody this wear the traditional sarong kebaya as their uniform. It was designed to reflect pride in Malaysian traditions and culture. The batik motif and design elements include local flowers such as cempaka, jasmine and hibiscus.

Passengers flying Business Suite or Business class may take advantage of the airline’s Chef on Call Service and pre-order meals from over 20 delicious options 24 hours ahead of departure.
Safety is an integral part of Malaysia Airlines’ service delivery and the airline ensures maintenance is done in accordance with strict compliance to stringent regulatory requirements and obligations. The airline also takes training very seriously and invests in training facilities such as its own simulator centre, an academy to train flight attendants and computer based training for crew and engineers. Even its cargo handlers are trained in dangerous goods handling as mandated by IATA.

Malaysia Airlines is the official Global Airline Partner of Liverpool Football Club. Liverpool FC is one of the most followed clubs in the world, with around 100 million in South East Asia and 40 million in China. Through this partnership, we provide exposure to young Malaysian players through soccer clinics and professional coaching. Recently, the #MHGlobal campaign brought 20 fans from all over the world on an all-expenses paid trip for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to play at Anfield stadium alongside LFC Legends Robbie Fowler and Gary McAllister.
Malaysia Airlines proudly flies the national flag on behalf of all Malaysians. As the national airline, Malaysia Airlines has embraced the Negaraku initiative, launched by the Prime Minister of Malaysia with the objective of instilling a sense of patriotism amongst all Malaysians. A few aircraft will bear the Negaraku emblem with special livery, incorporating the spirit of Negaraku. Our inflight magazine, Going Places, as well as our inflight entertainment system will feature Malaysian Heroes and special content with a spotlight on Malaysia.
