Malaysia Airlines and MASwings flight operations in Kota Kinabalu
26 Oct 2012, Kota Kinabalu: A few inbound and outbound Malaysia Airlines and MASwings flights at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) scheduled in the evening today have been retimed as the KKIA runway was temporarily closed to rectify its runway lights which malfunctioned.
The runway closure for night flight operations was first announced at 6.50pm yesterday by the airport operator.
Based on an initial update received last night from the airport operator, it was estimated that the runway lights will be operational by 1.00am today but as at 6.00pm, the situation remained unsolved.
Both the airport operator and the Department of Civil Aviation are looking into this matter for immediate rectification and expected to normalise the situation by 9.30pm today.
In the meantime, Malaysia Airlines and MASwings are making necessary service recovery arrangements, where possible, for affected passengers whilst the situation is being addressed by the authorities concerned.
All efforts are also being made to reallocate affected passengers into the earliest flights into and out of Kota Kinabalu during the day time operations.
Passengers may call Malaysia Airlines/MASwings toll free number at 1-300-88-3000 for updated information about their flight status.
Malaysia Airlines and MASwings apologise to all affected passengers for the inconveniences caused by the closure of KKIA for night flight operations.
